Jose Tabata Might Be Fastest Aging Prospect In Baseball


Interesting piece out of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review this morning from Rob Biertempfel on purported “rumblings” that 21-year old Jose Tabata might actually be in his mid-20s.  Tabata, who was acquired from the New York Yankees in 2008 as part of the Xavier Nady/Damaso Marte trade, is considered among the Pirates’ top prospects along with Pedro Alvarez.

Bucs Outright Steven Jackson


The Pittsburgh Pirates elected to outright relievers Anthony Claggett and Steven Jackson on Wednesday, after both had cleared waivers.  Dejan Kovacevic reported that the number of non-roster invitees to Spring Training is now at 22 after the latest movement.

Pirates Looking At Church As Reserve Outfielder


While it has appeared as though Rick Ankiel was out of reach for the Buccos, Neal Huntington and co. have turned their attention to free-agent outfielder Ryan Church.  Ankiel had a season to forget in 2009, but his agent and super douche Scott Boras continues to market him as a proven .285-30-100 guy.

General Manager Neal Huntington is apparently holding his cards extra close right now because we were all led to believe the Bucs were in the mix for Justin Duchscherer.  The free agent pitcher is reportedly reviewing offers from three teams, none of which happen to be the Pittsburgh Pirates.
