Dropping Link Love On The Bucs
July 10th, 2009 | by SL |I’ll be back later this afternoon with a weekend preview, but for now here’s some stories from around the web:
Hanrahan Notches Win For Nationals While Enjoying Day-Off With Pirates
The recently acquired Hanrahan had pitched in the top of the 11th during a Nationals/Astros game on May 5th. The game was subsequently delayed and picked up yesterday. Former Buc Nyjer Morgan scored the winning run in the bottom half of the inning after taking the since demoted Elijah Dukes’ spot on third base.
Doumit Likely To Remain Out Until After All-Star Break
With the news of Luis Cruz being recalled by Pittsburgh, it seems more and more likely that Ryan Doumit will not rejoin the Bucs until after the break. As noted yesterday, Doumit has had some struggles in the hitting department since beginning his rehab assignment.
Pirates’ Would Like To Move Adam LaRoche
It was just a matter of time before senior LaRoche’s name started to get tossed around the trade rumor winds. Finding suitors may prove to be more difficult according to Dejan: “The other player in the Pirates’ “pushing hard” category, according to the executive, is first baseman Adam LaRoche, but interest is known to be minimal given his $7.05 million salary, pending free agency and .259 average.”
San Francisco Giants Interested in Sanchez
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the San Francisco Giants would be willing to trade Jonathan Sanchez for Freddy Sanchez. The left-handed starter (Jonathan) Sanchez has drawn some comparisons to Oliver Perez, mostly for his inability to throw strikes on a consistent basis. Do we really need another left-handed starter?
Bob Smizik Is Losing His Mind
The Pirates are no contender right now, but Neil Huntington has re-stocked this system with a series of unpopular trades. I like to believe they’re getting better for the near future. Bob Smizik believes that the 2010 Pirates could lose 110 games. Bob Smizik has lost his goddamn mind.
